High School T-shirt quilt for my nephew. With few shirts to work with and only three colors, I wanted to make it different. I used graph paper to place and determine exact cutting for each t-shirt. One polo shirt was signed by his friends upon graduation so I sit it up into rectangles with complete names and placed throughout the quilt. I liked the shadow effect to make the blocks pop.
I worked for 3 days on this, I think the key is taking your yarn/skein and reRoling it into a ball, putting that ball into a basket or box. Also if you are working from the right to the left put the basket on the left hand side, and vise versa.
This helps keep consistency and helps the process go by faster. This was my first time and me and my husband love it!!

I absolutely love this outfit! It looks so comfy and the way you used the fabric prints is outstanding. Bet you’re really enjoying wearing it.
Fun and quick with Bias Tap, no cutting or fitting in each strip. Just sew it on, then fit the blocks together, and layer. Quick and easy. And one collection of clutter used, bias tape left overs all gone.
I’ve been sewing up a storm for my G.grandaughters,and loving every minute doing things for the 4 of them.
I made some sun hats to stay hidden from Florida’s brutal sunny rays.
I have an old Singer that won’t pick up the thread. Took it to a repair guy and he wouldn’t tell me what he did to fix it. I only sewed about 2 feet when it stopped. Do you know what he adjusted?

How do you sew with elastic thread?
Hi Darleen,
Elastic thread is wound on the bobbin and stitched using a long, straight stitch. The long stitch length and elastic thread will gather the fabric to create a shirring effect. The more rows of stitching you do (roughly 1/4″ apart), the more the fabric will gather. Ensure the fabric lays flat under the presser foot as you stitch subsequent rows. Lightweight fabrics gather better than stiff, heavy fabrics, and one layer of fabric will always gather better than a doubled-up layer. Make sure you backstitch or tie off the end of each row so the elastic doesn’t unravel from the seam.
The way you thread the elastic on the bobbin depends on your machine. With my Pfaff, I hand-wind using moderate pressure on the thread, so it’s on the bobbin tight enough to stay put, but not super tightly stretched. Some machines require you wind the elastic thread onto the bobbin using the machine’s bobbin winder to achieve a tighter stretch on the bobbin.

The comments here are related to the photos above. I wondered the same thing. You go to the gallery, click one one. I scrolled down thinking the comments are only for that project, however, they are all mixed together. Scroll back up or arrow back and you will see the photos.

My best advice it to leave a bit extra space when you come up from the bottom. the point of the needle is smaller than the eye. so when you are poking through the thread from underneath your eye sees a very small point. but when you go down (on the other side of the satin stitch) poking the top of the fabric your eye doesn’t see the imperceptible extra space that the needle takes up. So as you work along one side is closer together than the other. You must make a concious effort to spread out the threads on that side. good luck!
