The fabric and interfacing you choose for this project makes a big difference in how the finished product looks and feels. Nicki will discuss different fabric choices and how interfacing those fabrics will alter their properties. Also, get a look at the backpack pattern pieces, notions, and learn what pattern markings to transfer to your chosen fabric.
Get an overview of different hardware options for the backpack, including D-rings, sliders, buckles and eyelets. Learn how to attach a slider to create an adjustable strap, plus different hardware attachment options for the fold over flap.
Begin stitching the backpack with the pockets. The backpack features a dimensional front zippered pocket, an elastic side pocket and one inner zipper pocket. Nicki shows you step-by-step how to attach each pocket.
The backpack straps feature a layer of batting for extra comfort and stability when wearing the backpack. Nicki demonstrates how to create the straps, plus how to attach the slider to the strap's webbing.
Finish up the backpack by putting it all together. Nicki demonstrates how to attach the lining to the backpack and insert a zipper in the upper edge. At the end of this session, you will have a completed, functional and stylish backpack.
