Any tips on how to use clear thread with ease
Hi Juanita,
This video on our sister site, National Quilter’s Circle, has some great information from ZJ Humbach on working with clear thread.
https://www.nationalquilterscircle.com/video/using-invisible-thread-015621/
This article also has some information on spools vs cones of thread, and adjusting your sewing machine tension when using clear thread.
https://www.generations-quilt-patterns.com/clear-thread.html
One of the major points I’ve heard about working with clear thread is to decrease your needle tension if using the clear thread in the needle, and wind the bobbin very slowly if using the clear thread in the bobbin, as it does have some stretch to it.
Hope this helps!
Best,
Nicki

What if you have a pair of jeans and there is too much fullness in the legs? Too much just to taper. These are bootcut and I want to keep the bootcut but want a slimmer fit.
Hello Shelia,
Thank you for contacting us.
If you want to keep the bootcut at the bottom, but get a slimmer fit in the legs above the knee, you can do the same alteration to the side seam wherever you need to remove extra space. You can even take in the side seam all the way up through the waistband, if you’re okay with putting a side seam into your waistband.
If you mean you want to keep the bootcut shape, just take it in so it’s narrower all over, I think you’d have to take it in from the inseam and outer seam to keep the shape symmetrical and the grain falling evenly. As I mention in the video, it’ll entail unpicking that topstitching from the inseam, which can be difficult to get a smooth, even join of the new seamline with the old, but it just takes some attention to detail.
Hope this helps!
