Learn how to make a fabric cover for your sewing machine to protect it from dust and lint while in storage in your sewing room, or as a sewing machine cover for traveling. The cover is complete with an opening at the top for the handle, so you can easily move and carry the machine while it is covered. Nicki LaFoille shows you how!

First, Nicki begins by taking measurements from the machine to stitch the custom sewing machine cover. Measure the machine width and height and add seam allowances and ease. Curve the upper corners of the side panels per Nicki’s instructions.

Then, you will take measurements to cut the remaining panel for the sewing machine cover. To create the handle opening, Nicki demonstrates how to mark the handle beginning and end on the outer panel wrong side, then draw the handle opening box. You will then align the lining with the outer panel and stitch the handle window. Nicki demonstrates how to cut open the handle window and press the layers for topstitching.

After topstitching, Nicki demonstrates how to attach the side panels to the sewing machine cover to give it shape. Repeat this process for the outer fabric and the lining.

The last step is to finish the lower edges by folding and edgestitching the outer fabric and lining layers.

When your sewing machine cover is finished, it will sit perfectly on your sewing machine, to protect it while traveling and to cover it from dust and debris while sitting in your sewing room.
